Foaming Species and Trapping Mechanisms in Barium Silicate Glass Sealants

چکیده
Barium silicate glass powders 4 h milled in CO2 and Ar sintered air are studied with microscopy, total carbon analysis, differential thermal analysis (DTA), vacuum hot extraction mass spectroscopy (VHE-MS), Fourier-transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron (XPS), time-of-flight secondary-ion spectrometry (TOF?SIMS). Intensive foaming of powder compacts is evident, VHE studies prove that predominantly caused by carbonaceous species for both milling gases. DTA shows the decomposition BaCO3 particles mix-milled occurs at similar temperatures as compacts. However, no carbonate surface could be detected FTIR XPS, TOF?SIMS after heating to temperature sintering. Instead, molecules unable rotate identified milling, probably trapped mechanical dissolution into bulk. Such a mechanism or microencapsulation cracks particle aggregates can explain contribution intense atmosphere. The amount Ar, however, cannot fully extent foaming. Carbonates mechanically dissolved beneath encapsulated micropores therefore major source.

Sintering and Foaming of Barium Silicate Glass Powder Compacts
The manufacture of sintered glasses and glass-ceramics, glass matrix composites, and glass-bounded ceramics or pastes is often affected by gas bubble formation. Against this background, we studied sintering and foaming of barium silicate glass powders used as SOFC sealants using different powder milling procedures. Sintering was measured by means of heating microscopy backed up by XPD, differen...

The environmental benefits of fuel cells have been increasingly appreciated in recent years. Among candidate electrolytes for solid-oxide fuel cells, yttrium-doped barium zirconate has garnered attention because of its high proton conductivity, particularly in the intermediate-temperature region targeted for cost-effective solid-oxide fuel cell operation, and its excellent chemical stability. H...
متن کاملCdSxSe1-x nanocrystals in a silicate glass
A dilute system of CdS,Sel-, nanocrystals with low anisotropy and low size dispersion has been studied by SAXS. The presence of angularities at the surface of the nanoparticles is evidenced from the limit at zero of the chord distribution function. Moreover in a model of spherical particles the size given by the average chord does not agree with that given by the integral parameters. A cubic pa...
متن کاملCompressibility and Foaming behavior of steel slag/waste glass compositesby particle size distribution and foam agents
In present research, the foam glass-ceramic composites fabricated by window glass, steel slag and SiC, CaCO3 foaming agents were investigated by press–sintering method. The optimum sintering temperature was obtained at 1200°C with a 3-minutes holding time and 20°C/min heating rate. The optimum pressure level of 80 MPa for achieving the 70 % of relative density was selected. The effec...
